Schools are subject to the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) which says they need to address Internet privacy and safety issues, including disclosure of information about minors and use of Internet filtering products, in their Acceptable Use Polices that parents sign off on.
The Internet is a decentralized collection of computer networks managed by separate groups using a common set of technical standards. The Internet has tremendous potential as an educational resource by providing access to networking through worldwide electronic mail, various databases, and electronic bulletin boards.
Schools wanted to practice using the Internet to learn how they could use the Internet in their educational activities, with the primary motive of testing the potential of the Internet. They wanted to use the Internet to motivate students and improve their environmental education, with the primary motive of improving the quality of their environmental education courses.
